Year 3 – Science

Year 3 are currently exploring the topic of forces and magnets. This afternoon, they enjoyed an engaging lesson where they tested various materials around school to determine whether they were magnetic. Through this hands-on activity and class discussion, all students developed a clear understanding of both contact and non-contact forces.

Year 5 French

Year 5 had the pleasure of being taught French this week by a group of Cardinal Hume students. We were reading French poetry. Year 5 absolutely loved the lesson and learned lots of new vocabulary. The Cardinal Hume students did a brilliant job teaching their first ever lesson!

Year 3 – Humanities

Year 3 have really impressed me with their knowledge of Ancient Greece and Volcanoes this week! They have provided a detailed explanation of how volcanoes affect a place and the importance of stories in Ancient Greece.

Year 6 Robinwood

Year 3 – Art

Year 3 are currently learning all about Relief Sculpture in Art. To develop their understanding they have created a mood board and researched modern and classic relief sculptors. Next, they will design and sculpt their own 3-D tile.

Year 4 – Programming

Year 4 have been revisiting scratch this week in computing, where they were exploring how to add movement and sounds to a sprite to create an animation. Next lesson, we will follow a set of instructions to create our names in flashing colours.

Year 2 Football

Year 2 enjoyed their trip to Cardinal Hume to complete a football fun morning! Year 9 sports captains led the children in various football based activities which they thoroughly enjoyed.

Summer in Bloom

Year 2 enjoyed their trip to Wharton Park where they investigated different flowers in the park and their different parts, made their own flower models using natural materials and played games including moving nectar from one flower to another.

Year 4 Maths

Year 4 have been working very hard in Maths this week. They have represented mixed numbers in their book to show their understanding and have converted those to improper fractions. Year 3 – History

In History, our current topic is ‘Ancient Greece’. Year 3 now know about the origins of democracy and the Peloponnesian war, this week we explored Greek literature and theatre. During this lesson, children created their own mask, as in Ancient Greece actors used masks to portray various emotions .

Craft Events

Family Learning from Gateshead Council came into school and led two sessions, one with Year 1 and one with Reception. They shared information with parents/carers about fun activities and resources available to families over the summer holidays. Year 5 making clay pots!

Year 5 have been making clay pots this half term! We started by researching how clay pots are made and drawing our own designs. We then formed our clay pots using the pinch method and added details using carving tools. Finally, we painted them with our designs!

Reception have planted sunflowers!

Reception class have enjoyed learning about plants and flowers. We learned how to plant seeds correctly and what plants need to help them grow. Children worked in pairs to scoop soil into the plant pot, then put the seed in and then lastly add more soil on to protect the seed from birds.
