From small beginnings, we are now one of the most popular and thriving Pre-Schools in the area. St Anne’s Pre-School opened in May 1992. Located within St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, we have 48 places for children with a choice of morning and afternoon sessions.
Children can attend from their second birthday, with Government funding available for all 3 and 4 year olds (from the term after their third birthday).
The Pre-School offers high quality provision, which includes:
Registered charity number: 1025384.
Member of Pre-School Learning Alliance.
The Pre-School aim to create a happy and secure and stimulating environment where children can enjoy learning through play, providing a foundation for starting school. We aim to help children develop enquiring minds, leading to questions and discussions.
The Pre-School give children the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge in all areas of the curriculum. We also give children the opportunity to work together and show care and consideration for others.
At the Pre-School, we value parents/carers and will work together with them, taking time to listen and respond when needed. Each child has a diary, which will give the parent/carer insight into the child’s progress and interests at the Pre-School.

Meet the staff at our school!
Mrs G Curran – Pre-School Leader
Mrs Curran joined the setting in September 2000 and has helped our group embrace the changes that have taken place over the years since the introduction of the new Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Mrs Curran has an excellent knowledge of child development and a firm understanding of policy and practice, which is demonstrated in the way our setting operates. She works alongside Mrs French to ensure the children are provided with the best care and education possible, placing children at the heart of everything we do.
On leaving the Sacred Heart Grammar School, Mrs Curran completed an Honours Degree in Mathematics and subsequently her Post Graduate Certificate in Education. Whilst her children were young she taught Mathematics part time at both South Tyneside and Newcastle College. She later went on to work part time in a creche and realised that this was the age group she preferred to teach and began her retraining, gaining a BTec in Childhood Studies in 1999. In 2006 Mrs Curran embarked upon further studies and gained a BA in Childhood Studies and in 2010 gained her Early Years Professional Status.
Mrs Curran is responsible for Finance and is also Safeguarding Officer.
Mrs T French – Pre-School Leader
Mrs French is our longest serving member of staff, who joined the setting in the early days when it was a playgroup running three mornings per week. She has worked here since 1993 and has seen many changes over the years. She ensures that whatever changes take place, we always continue to place the children at the centre of everything we do. Mrs French has extensive experience of working with children from a wide range of backgrounds. Alongside Mrs Curran, she puts the needs of families in the setting first, if necessary adapting the session or session times to provide the best outcomes for the children in our care.
Mrs French has many years experience in childcare, she completed her NNEB (level 3) with distinctions on leaving the Sacred Heart Grammar School. She went on to work at Raby Street Primary School for 10 years, leaving to have her family and subsequently joining St. Anne’s Pre-School.
Mrs French is responsible for Admissions and is also Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo).
Mrs K Ross – Pre-School Assistant
Mrs Ross re-joined our group in 2015. She worked here for several years when her children were young and left in July 2000 to pursue other interests. Whilst working as a Lunch Time Supervisor in school, she was asked back by the Pre-School Leaders to provide cover for absences and we are now delighted to have her as a permanent part time member of staff.
Mrs Ross is an energetic and enthusiastic member of staff, she cares for the children as if they were her own. She has enjoyed working with us so much that with encouragement from Mrs Curran, she decided to re-enter education herself and completed her Level 2 City and Guilds in Childhood Studies in 2017. She demonstrated so much commitment to her studies that she was nominated for Adult Learner of the Year, unfortunately, she did not win but we were extremely proud of her. She is now studying for her Level 3 qualification.
Mrs J Triggs – Pre-School Assistant
Mrs Triggs joined our setting in 1994, she has worked diligently throughout those years to ensure the children have the best care possible. She has worked hard to provide the children with a wide range of experiences from creative activities to growing their own vegetables.
Having gained valuable experience over many years as an unqualified member of staff, she set herself a challenge to go back to studying in 2010. She gained her CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce in 2012, we are very proud of the commitment she makes to ensuring the best outcomes for the children.
Miss Y Welsh – Pre-School Assistant
Miss Welsh joined our setting in February 2010, firstly on a voluntary basis and subsequently as a full time member of staff. Over the years Miss Welsh has gained valuable experience which is demonstrated in the quality of care she provides for the children. She is a positive role model and the children will seek her out to join in their games.
She studied alongside Mrs Triggs to gain her CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce in 2012. She has subsequently completed a Foundation Degree in Childhood Studies and now has her Level 5 qualification.
